Student Exchange Program at Chiba (J-PAC) for the academic year 2026-2027

Submit your application to the External Relations Office (A125). Office hours: 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM – 3:45 PM, Monday to Friday.

    • For the program beginning in October 2026: by February 1st, 2026
    • For the program beginning in April 2027: by July 28th, 2026

***Language requirement***
Either 1 or 2 is required for J-PAC (Please refer to the J-PAC Outline for details):
1. Sufficient level of English (CEFR B2 or higher) + Japanese language
learning experience at least for 50 hours
2. Sufficient level of Japanese (JLPT N2 or higher)

***Study period***
1. Full academic year: October to August next year
2. Fall semester only: October to February next year
3. Spring semester only: April to August


Note: Students cannot change their study periods after they apply.
Please make sure if it is appropriate for them.

***Application Conditions***

Applicants must:

  • be at least second-year student at the time of application
  • return to the home country (or the country where the home institution is) after the study period at Chiba University
  • have studied Japanese language for at least 50 hours at the time of application.
  • have either the following language proficiency at the time of application:
    • have sufficient English proficiency to take classes offered in English, equivalent to CEFR B2, TOEFL iBT 72 or IELTS 5.5 or over.
    • have sufficient Japanese proficiency to take classes offered in Japanese. equivalent to passing JLPT N2 or CEFR B2 or over.

  • A Letter of Reference (Designated form)
  • Academic Transcript in English from home institution (include grading criteria)
  • Emergency contacts (Designated form)
  • Cerfiticate of health (Designated form)
  • Passport ID page
  • Photo:
    • ̇Must be taken in full-face view facing directly facing the camera and in front of a plain
    • white or off-white background.
    • ̇Must be taken within the last 3 months.
    • ̇Must be attached to the J-PAC Application Form.
  • Language certificates:
    • A certificate of Japanese language proficiency by a Japanese language instructor (Designated form)

                                      Regardless your proficiency level, please submit the document if you have studied Japanese                                        language at your home institution or other institutions. It is preferable than the certificate is                                          written by a different academic instructor who writes a letter of reference.

    • Please submit required documents to meet the language requirements for either (1) English or (2) Japanese (Please refer to the J-PAC Outline for details)

In addition to the documents above, students must submit the Declaration and Student’s Information Form (per the attached templates: Student Information Form_CHIBA—please fill in the yellow-highlighted sections only and Declaration_CHIBA)
